A Site Evaluation is the first step in obtaining a permit to replace a failing or outdated water supply on land that does not have access to municipal water services. Site evaluations may also be requested to assess the existing water supply system for problems with water quality. During the site evaluation, a sanitarian will evaluate the proposed site to determine a suitable system replacement based on the requirements of the sanitary code. Some of the specific items that are examined during the evaluation are:
- Isolation distances to possible contamination sources (existing or planned)
- Distance to property lines
- Accessability for drill rig
- Accessability for maintenance
- Well abandonment
