Eligibility
Everyone, regardless of age, can participate in immunization programs through the Western UP Health Department. Under the Affordable Health Care Act, many insurance providers are covering immunizations as a form of preventative care. Those without insurance coverage may qualify for the assistance through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program or the Michigan Adult Vaccine Program (MIAVP).
Children 18 years of age and younger qualify for VFC if they meet any of the following eligibility criteria:
- Enrolled in Medicaid
- Have no health insurance, or have health insurance but immunizations are not covered
- Are of American Indian or Alaskan Native heritage
- Served by a federally qualified or rural health center and are under-insured
Adults who are uninsured or underinsured (insurance does not cover immunizations), and who meet certain risk factors, may qualify to receive MMR, Td, Tdap, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, Pneumonia, and Shingles vaccines through Michigan Adult Vaccine Program (MIAVP). To find out if you’re eligible for MIAVP vaccines, please contact your local health department office.
Vaccine administration fees for persons qualifying for VFC or MIAVP coverage are applied as follows: $15 for the first VFC/MIAVP vaccine and $5 for each additional VFC/MIAVP vaccine received during the appointment.
Clients without vaccination coverage and who do not qualify for VFC or MIAVP may pay privately for vaccinations. Information regarding immunization fees can be found on our immunization fee schedule.
